The amount of benefit fraud in the UK makes the undeserved expenses claimed pale into insignificance. My builder has just finished my bathroom and asked for £1,500 in cash. That would be well over £2,000 of my hard earned, tax paid money. How many people can put their hand on their hearts and say they have NEVER fiddled or cheated on anything. Very few, including me. It's all a question of scale. This is all 18th century freak show stuff and we shouldn't be taken in by it.<br />Just an angle. Where they are going to come from, I don't know. It's quite sad that I don't feel represented or listened to in a country that takes a fifth of my income to redistribute as it wishes, which seems to be to the MPs themselves rather than to people who need it. I've never resented paying taxes as I felt that as a developed country we have a responsibility to ensure everyone is looked after by those who can look after themselves, now I'm feeling a little differently.Working Mumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16243697047355131343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4285758144007302365.post-40931858855758085242009-06-10T21:14:42.929+01:002009-06-10T21:14:42.929+01:00I LOVE reading about those bozos every single day....I LOVE reading about those bozos every single day. I sympathize as we have been going through our own upheavals for, oh, eight years, as you know (and still the mayhem continues in some sectors). We are audacious in our hope, however. Dump the House of Lords and have a 2nd elected chamber; get rid of every single existing MP who claimed inappropriately on expenses and ban them from standing ever again; galvanise all the people we know who are sensible and honest to stand as independents; reintroduce politics and genuine debate, not party politics, to the house of commons; make Betty Boothroyd queen; introduce proportional representation; have a poke about to see if socialism is hiding in a wee corner and bring it out into the sunlight; set up government owned flats for MPs whose constituencies are more than 50 miles outside of London which they can't buy or pay mortgages on and can only use for their term in office; centralise employment of staff - want your husband to be your secretary? Fine, someone will interview him alongside all the other candidates and make the best choice; nationalise the banks and utilities properly and permanently - we need ONE bank, ONE water company, ONE train company etc, no choice but fantastic service responsive to consumer demand. I could (no doubt will) go on and on and on.Mopsahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17912659592484055741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4285758144007302365.post-26972131439510244732009-06-05T07:31:16.340+01:002009-06-05T07:31:16.340+01:00I hope there'll be a general election.
