Here Comes the Sun?

If the sun shines today, please thank me personally, for yesterday dear friends I bought a mac. From M and S, reduced from nearly a hundred quid to twenty-nine, it’s black and white check and very stylish (obviously). I look quite foxy in it, for an old bird.

The reason I’m telling you this is because me buying a mac is the sartorial equivalent of doing a rain dance in reverse. In the same way as it's all my fault we’ve had weeks of rain because of several sleeveless t-shirts and a wrap-over linen dress bought at the beginning of July (sorry about that) since when it has persistently pissed down, and if my previous history is anything to go on, buying a showerproof coat now should certainly put a stop to this hideous wet weather. I'm hoping I won’t need to wear it but I’m not taking it back for a refund until we’ve had a bit of sun.

So while you’re out walking the dogs, pottering in the garden, or sun-bathing in the park with your iPOD earphones plugged in – just send me a vote of thanks. And a quid towards the mac.

But just in case, dear Grocer, my favourite is Rum n Raisin.

Glad to be of service.

ah, that must be the equivalent of washing your car.

if you wash your car, you're guaranteed rain. or so the legend goes....

Exactly the same principle Laurie - over here we call it "Sod's Law"!

SM - could you please buy another one next week & p'raps we might stand a chance...of getting the sun lotion out. (I actually lost my only waterproof just before the real rains came down. I suspect I could be to blame...

So it was you Lizzie, all along! Ah well, these things happen. I am buying some Wellies tomorrow so look forward to a sunny day.

Best wishes!

Rainbow said...

Well, it sort of worked, for a little while - maybe we should all go and buy wellies tomorrow?

@themill said...

Do you think you could come to Northumberland and make purchase of a rather thick, warm woollen pullie?

Swearing Mother said...

Hi Rainbow and @themill,

I'm willing to try anything now, fed up with being soggy.

Looking on the bright side, at least we don't live in Tewkesbury.

Happy to contribute the pound, but then I note there was no swearing in this post, so it'll do as a refund...

Swearing Mother said...

To Stay at Home Dad:

Send me the pound or I tell your daughter you binned Sammy the Shrimp!

Ha!

Keep quiet or I send you the shrimp!

Ha ha!

Foxy lady! I like that. Hey it shouldn't be long before you get the £29 - then you could put a Blogger sponsorship label on said mac ...!

Swearing Mother said...

SAHD - OK you win, and in deference to you I have changed the "h" in "hissed down" to a "p" to ensure that the previously advertised level of swearing remains constant.

Best wishes.

Hello Swearing Mother, I've just popped in courtesy of Rainbow who mentions your blog. I'd love to put a mention of your blog on mine which you can find at latethirtiescrisis.blogspot.com if you don't mind? Perhaps you could let me know? I have cried with laughing at the post about doughnuts - I think we may be kindred spirits, me having returned from Druckers after a lunch and proudly declaring that I've done my 5 a day fruit & veg with a ham & asparagus croissant & a bit of fiddly salad, a slice of lemon cheesecake, & an apple & raspberry J20.

Swearing Mother said...

No problem Knifepainter. Have sent husband out to buy a rainproof gazebo and new wellies, but as extra insurance I will treat myself to another umbrella. Hope that does the trick.

Today I have already prepared a good winter casserole in my slow-cooker, so hopefully the sun should be out all day and we'll wish we had a BBQ instead.

We can but hope.

Best wishes.

Hi Tina,

We are indeed kindred spirits - I even count the slice of lemon in my G and T as one of my "five a day" so I am in full agreement with your Drucker's total.

Please feel free to mention me in your blog - I'll be over to visit!

SM - Have just found that your comment on my blog (it came through on email) 'got disappeared'! I know not what happened but I shall attempt to paraphrase it (I don't think I can paste it.)

Oh Swearing Mother, I have laughed and laughed! Like Tina I found your blog via Rainbow's and I will definitely be a regular visitor. Your meteriological talents are akin to mine so it's only fair to warn you that the rain will be returning with a vengeance in about 10 days time as I'm off to a field in Somerset in a tent.

Swearing Mother said...

Jez, thanks for visiting! Get some calamine lotion on that sunburn!

Lizzie, I've re-sent my comment to you. Bit of a cockup on the technical front from my end I think.

Oh bloody hell, Belle, how could you! A tent in Somerset? In that case, tomorrow I am definitely going down to Homebase to get some planks of wood to board up the windows.

Hope you manage to have a lovely time despite it all.

Best wishes to all.

I know, SM, I know! But I try to pretend I'm elsewhere as I sit sipping my Pimms and painting my toenails. In fact, when it comes to the art of Camping Denial, I am unsurpassed in my skill.

I followed a link from somewhere and found myself here. Thanks for the lovely weather today!

I just read your post from Monday "Does my bum look big in this?" and almost wet myself laughing! I'll be back to read more.

Now it definitely worked, thanks so much :-)

Warm weather got a bit on the chillier side by the time it got to Norfolk, blame those fresh easterly winds from the North Sea, but still didn't deter my newly six-year-old and her hardy mates from pestering me until I let them use their water slide (thanks Uncle Tom for that one). Sent them back to their parents shivering with blue lips! That's what I call a birthday party! And can't understand why she wasn't more excited about her birthday present. Surely a car seat is an ideal gift (practical yet stylish, cup holders and everything!!) For some reason she was much more enthused spending her anties' cash in the Next sale. So many outfits so little time!!

black and white checks sounds very striking dear, but do be careful you can still be seen on zebra crossings won't you

Swearing Mother said...

Hi Rainbow, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Have left you proper messages on your blog. xx

Hi Ginger Witch, your daughter sounds like a girl after my own heart - birthday money spent on clothes is definitely the way to go. I'm not so sure about the blue lips though, at my age that is hopefully a definite no.

Rilly Super!! How fantastic of you to visit, I've been reading you for ages and totally enjoying it. Thanks for advice re crossing, hopefully the boy-scout who is helping me over the road will be wearing full uniform and therefore stand out more than I do in the mac. Still haven't worn it yet.
