Retail Therapy? No Ta.

There are two sorts of people in this world. Those who will get up at four in the morning and queue up outside Next to buy a half price sweater, and those who simply can't be arsed. It may not surprise you to know that I'm of the latter persuasion. Right now I just can't imagine wanting any material thing enough to drag myself out of bed at some ridiculously early time in the morning on Boxing Day or the day after, probably with a well-deserved hangover, simply to go shopping again. And quite frankly, that's not something you hear me say all that often, me being the career shopper that I am, however much of a sucker I am for a bargain.

But after the excesses of the past few days and the weeks of pre-Christmas shopping frenzy that we've all been through, who can be bothered to do it all again so soon? There just can't be anything left in the shops to warrant that kind of effort, can there?

Round here it's still Christmas, and we've still got a whole lot more lounging about to do. I am so not ready to get back to normality just yet.

But give it time......

I'm not getting out of bed early for anything at the moment. There's nothing I want THAT badly.

Check back next week, I'm sure my tune will change.

There has never been and never will be anything that would make me choose to get up at that godforsaken hour. Except possibly the house burning down. I may drag myself out of my bed for that. Perhaps.

sorry to say this, but I think that's a sign we're all getting old! Time was I'd have been first into the shops, but now I'm the same- nothing is worth disturbing the peace and lounging.I just said to my husband this morning, how nice it is to just sit and read last week's papers and not have to think of mental lists of what needs to be done by what date.Give me at least another week of this..chill, chill, chill, mimi not mike

I made a half hearted attempt to sale-shop online but decided, as you so rightly observe, that there was nothing I needed or wanted so desperately.

Had to go to work this morning and it was a tough enough struggle to get to my desk by 9 (its all of a ten minute walk from home). There is no way I could have been in front of some shop in the middle of the night.

Talk soon xx

I maintain it has absolutely nothing to do with age. I avoided the shops the week before and the week after Christmas just as carefully when I was 19 as I do now.

Shopping is evil. I hate it. It's just worse at Christmas.

The staggering thing is there are so many people out there prepared to raise themselves from their warm beds and go fighting with the other weirdos. I see on the news today there were various sales-related injuries. I kid you not, the BBC are reporting collapses, hypothermia and various other hospitalisations.

So it's nice to know there are a few normal people around who despise the whole concept. Well, when I say 'normal', you know what I mean...

Hiya RC: Guess we are similar in that the lure of a half price lurex halter-neck top can only go so far, and just isn't strong enough to drag us out of our beds that early.

Will probably be reporting that I've been sucked in by the weekend though.

Belle hello! There just isn't anything worth that sort of sacrificie, I agree.

Mimi, hi. I could carry on like this for days, weeks even, but will have to leave the house soon, even if it's only to walk round to the pub. Fantastic.

MMOF, for goodness' sake - work today? You are a hero. Hopefully the tribe were at home cooking dinner ready for your return!

Ooh Kaycie, you're not a shopping fan then? Best avoid anything faintly resembling a mall for the next month or so, it's going to be hell.

Hello Beachfreak, I also heard about sale-related injuries in the queue outside Next (I must be psychic) - I just cannot believe there's anything in there worth getting damaged for. Unless they're selling trousers that make my bum look considerably smaller than it does at present. In which case, stand back and give me some.

Bullring and Pallisades are hell on earth at the best of times. Best avoid them for now.
But I must admit the Pallisades is a good place to be while waiting for a connection at New Street. But I've done woth running up and down the country for now. Its chill out for Hogmanay.

Hello SM! My friend went to Next in the Bull Ring for a pair of boots yesterday. She got in the queue for the checkout & then a member of staff came to tell her that from where she was standing it would take 3 hrs to get to the checkout. The queue in the children's dept was 4 & a half hours....

Did she wait? Did she arse.

Tina - for goodness sake, WTF? How many hours? For a pair of Next boots??? Were they giving them away free?

I am literally sitting at my keyboard, shaking my head.

What is the world coming to.

Surely all the bargains were to be had before Christmas.
I just couldnt be arsed to wait to park, wait to be served, wait to get coffee, wait to get petrol - the traffic around our normally quiet patch ha been manic down to the "shops".
I refuse to start buying for next year this year

I'm right with you on that one - can't be arsed to go shopping ever again...but I'll get over that fairly quickly once the kids go back to school!

Valleys Mam, spot on. I think it's all just too much, too soon.

Family Affairs, you're so right. If there's anything worth having, it'll be gone by now I guess, but who cares? Not us!
